MLB Calls Emergency Meeting After Marlins COVID Outbreak

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, who has the power to shut down the regular season if circumstances make it unsafe, told the MLB Network on Monday that the league is prepared to handle outbreaks such as the one with the Marlins.

Marlins CEO Derek Jeter also acknowledged in a statement on Monday that the team is focused on the health of players and staff as it navigates "unchartered waters". That's why we have the expanded rosters, that's why we have the pool of additional players. "We are confident that Clubs and players will act appropriately, for themselves and for others, and the data provides reason to believe that the protocols can work effectively". He was among four Marlins players who tested positive for the coronavirus Sunday. The game has already been canceled, but it is unclear what other measures the league will take in terms of quarantining the players and staff and whether or not they will cancel other games in stadiums that the Marlins played at-the league has postponed the Yankees-Phillies game already which is the stadium that the Marlins just played at.

"Once guys understood the situation and the gravity of everything, and how really this can affect so many people and so quickly because of the way it spreads, it's just a good reminder that we're going to have to do as many things by the book to make sure we get through as many games as possible". Miami's game against the Baltimore Orioles is the first Major League Baseball game of the season to get canned for now.

"I don't think so", Girardi said when asked if the Phillies would feel comfortable playing if a scenario like last Sunday presented itself in the future.

Certainly, the Marlins' outbreak is creating fear throughout the industry.

Martinez ― who underwent a heart procedure past year ― admitted to feeling uneasy over the prospect of taking Washington to Miami to face the Marlins this weekend. Martinez said his level of concern went from "an 8 to a 12" after hearing of the outbreak with the Marlins. I got guys in our clubhouse that are really concerned, as well'. Some teachers around the country have announced they will quit if forced back into classrooms but it now appears the majority of teachers, especially non-union, will adopt the courage of America's nurses in the thought, "If it is to be, it is up to me", or, "So we have the virus, let's deal with it!" After MLB planned to have the healthy Marlins' players bus to Baltimore to play Wednesday-a plan lambasted by an epidemiologist at Emory University as "absolutely insane" and the "literal stupidest possible plan"-the league announced all Marlins games through August 2 have been postponed". That included Phillies players being tested Monday.

Davis, the Orioles' player representative, spoke with his teammates about the possibility of playing the Marlins, who had 17 members of their traveling party test positive for the coronavirus as of Tuesday night. The NFL has canceled preseason games, and all of this might not bode well for schools and other institutions hoping to reopen. How many more players will now opt-out?

Baseball chief Manfred meanwhile said the Marlins could return to play as soon as Wednesday depending on the outcome of testing. "I heard rumblings from the players, and they had some concerns. I can see that hasn't changed". Renteria would not be handling the groups video game Monday night versus Cleveland, Hahn stated.

"Remember when Manfred said players health was PARAMOUNT?!"
