Covid-19: India reports record daily cases

The health ministry said 697,358 cases had now been recorded, a rise of 24,000 in 24 hours, while Russian Federation has just over 681,000.

"The Chile has witnessed 15,459.8 cases of covid-19 per million population, while Peru, US, Brazil and Spain have 9070.8, 8560.5, 7419.1 and 5358.7 cases per million population respectively", said the health ministry statement. Out of the total number of covid cases, 2,59,557 are active while 4,39,948 have been either cured, discharged or migrated.

The capital Delhi has become the third state to register over 100,000 coronavirus cases in the country after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

Infections rose in the western and southern parts of the country amid heavy monsoon rains surging the number of deaths to 19,268. Tamil Nadu in second place has a total of 1,11,151 cases and 1,510 fatalities.

With this, the total number of samples tested for COVID-19 nationwide stands at 1,02,11,092.

Referring to the "WHO Situation Report-168" dated July 6, the ministry said India's COVID-19 cases per million population is 505.37 as against the global average of 1,453.25. "The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has increased to 61.13 per cent", it said.

The COVID-19 death toll reached 306 in Telangana, 276 in Haryana, 239 in Andhra Pradesh, 169 in Punjab, 138 in Jammu and Kashmir, 97 in Bihar, 42 in Uttarakhand, 38 in Odisha and 27 in Kerala.

On June 5, India overtook Russian Federation in the number of cumulative cases.

A similar surge was reported one day earlier, as 24,015 new cases were recorded Saturday, according to Worldometer data.

According to data from state governments, India logged more than 6.9 lakh cases on Sunday evening, overtaking Russian Federation, which had 6.8 lakh as per America's Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

Coronavirus cases in Delhi crossed the one lakh-mark on Monday, 125 days after the first case was reported in the city on March 2.

"Our figures are being reconciled with the ICMR", the ministry said, adding that 5,034 cases are being reassigned to states.

This achievement has also been possible by the continuously expanding network of testing labs throughout the country and as of today there are more than 1,105 labs for Covid tests.
